A member asked:

Can you have pcos without insulin resistance nor any other metabolic issues? what's the best treatment besides bcps in this case if symptoms persist?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

PCOS ?'s: PCOS can occur without insulin resistance, but arise from hormonal variations, and are more common with heavy exercise, sustained stress, or excess weight. Oral bcp's are the best treatment, unless pregnancy is desired, which may require other kinds of medications. The bcp's will also prevent later cancer of the uterus (constant estrogen stimulation of the uterine lining without ovulation).
