Breast tenderness: The hormone change which occurs "11-12 days before period" involves the production of progesterone by the ovary. Progesterone stimulates breast tissue, and occasional tenderness may develop in areas of more dense breast tissue. This is not cause for concern. This type of tenderness would be minimized if oral bcp's were used, since the hormones in the low dose pills are less.
