A member asked:

Why is it when on a 21 day contraceptive pill, you are at risk of pregnancy if a pill is missed, but it's safe on the week rest, to have a period?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Suppression of egg: The first 21 days of oral contraceptive hormones prevent both the endometrium from growing and the ovulation process from beginning. After Day 22 the body starts the hormonal withdrawal process resulting in what is seen as menstruation at the end of that time.
