Back pain: Intermittent pain in this region could be musculoskeletal, nerve or kidney in origin. Kidney stone pain is severe, usually radiates to flank and toward groin. Pinched rib cage nerve is sharp and increased with a deep breath. Muscular discomfort is worse with motion but usually doesn't disappear completely. If symptoms persist you will have to have your physician examine you and order tests.
