Hard to tell: Children with sepsis stay in the hospital for observation and treatment, while getting antibiotics. Maybe the patient in question only had bacteria in the blood, call bacteremia, and not true sepsis yet. Children with true sepsis stay in the hospital because merely getting antibiotics doesn't mean the sepsis gets stopped. Parents can discuss the plan with the doctor, if worried.
