A member asked:

Doctor treated my 5 + month baby of sepsis: iv + antibiotics., baby not admitted, its about 24 hours now, when should we be worried ? #symptoms

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hard to tell: Children with sepsis stay in the hospital for observation and treatment, while getting antibiotics. Maybe the patient in question only had bacteria in the blood, call bacteremia, and not true sepsis yet. Children with true sepsis stay in the hospital because merely getting antibiotics doesn't mean the sepsis gets stopped. Parents can discuss the plan with the doctor, if worried.
