Bright red ?: Blood that is bright red is usually from near the outlet & most often comes from a tear/fissure in the outlet or a hemorrhoid. It would be located on the surface of poop. If darker or purplish it comes from higher up. If mixed well within the stool, it could be from an infectious process.
