Two are likely: The two where this frequently occurs are ordinary diabetes when the sugar is out of control, spills out of the blood stream into the kidney carrying lots of water with it so you need to drink to compensate; and diabetes insipidus, an endocrinologic diseased of vasopressin which turns off the kidneys ability to reaborb water so it pours out and you have to drink to compensate.
