Do it now: Although ectopic pregnancies do not usually present painful symptoms this early in pregnancy, the OB MD you see now at an appointment can do an ultrasound and sometimes determine that the pregnancy is outside of the uterus. At the very least a follow up appointment later at 8 or 10 weeks along with serial quantitative beta hCG's can enhance ectopic early detection before problems result.

4-6 weeks: If you have had a tubal, or ectopic, pregnancy before, you should be seen earlier than 8 weeks. Although some doctors don't want to see you before 8 weeks, it is a good idea to mention that you had an ectopic pregnancy before so they understand that you should be seen earlier. If you have severe pelvic pain, especially if it is one-sided, or heavy bleeding, go to the ED.
