Medical exam: A stye is a localized infection located in the eyelid which causes a tender, red bump near the edge of the lid. This infection is caused by bacteria. The initial signs are pain, redness, swelling and tenderness. Styes generally don't cause vision problems. Styes are contagious & you should never pop one. Styes generally heal on their own. Go to a medical clinic for an exam to check this out.
