Stop antibiotics: Shingles is caused by a virus. Antibiotics are ineffective against shingles virus but acyclovir is effective. Untreated shingles can caused annoying to severe delayed pain. This can be lessened if antiviral medication is used quickly. Stop the antibiotics and take the acyclovir.
