Possible GI bleed: Likely hemorrhagic gastritis. Start an antacid such as omeprazole right away. Avoid alcohol and NSAIDs. Should have orthostatic vital signs and CBC checked right away at a minimum. May eventually need endoscopy. Be aware that iron and bismuth can discolor stool.

See details: Black or tarry stools can be indicative of an upper GI bleed. See a doctor asap and have a blood colunt done and have your stools checked for blood.
