Blood pressure rises: dramatically during a cough, and that can cause headaches. Also, many individuals have some nasal congestion when they are ill with cough symptoms, and the increase in BP increases the swelling in the sinuses too. Blood pressure usually drops quickly after a cough, but caution is recommended with over the counter cough/cold medications, as decongestants can increase BP too.
