More accurate test: A CT scan will provide a more accurate image of the kidney and the stone than the ultrasound.

Better information : Ultrasound is good at determining if here is urine backing up in your kidney from an obstruction that can come from a stone. It can also see cysts or masses in the kidney. It is not great at determining exact size and location of these that can be anywhere from in the kidney or anywhere along the path of urine. CT will do just that, exact size and position which helps determine passability.
