Frustrating isn't it: Many viruses will drive such a pattern with temp peaking as it enters the bloodstream and dropping as the body clears the germ.As long as the kid takes fluids well enough to pee every 6 hrs things should be okay. If the fever doesn't respond to ibuprofen or acetaminophen,don't bother. Fever does not damage baby. It settles in a day or 2. If it gets stuck over 102 for 12 hrs the kid need to be seen
