Exam needed: Viral gastrointestinal tract infections or food poisoning don't usually cause persistent vertigo. Lightheadedness can occur with fluid loss, low blood pressure or blood loss(see red blood or black stools). True vertigo may be due to viral labyrinth infection or some toxicity. If you are still significant lightheadedness or vertigo despite being well hydrated, see your physician for evaluation.
