Cut the calories: Eat fewer calories than one's body needs. If a person eats fewer calories than she needs to live on each day, her body burns stored fuel (fat). If a person exercises more than she did before, but does NOT start eating more calories, then her body also uses up stored fat. For example, a person can keep a diary of what happens when she takes in no more than 1400 total calories per day for 1 month.
