A member asked:

What is the best contraceptive pill to start on ? have quite a heavy menstruation for the first 3 days thereafter lighter .. total of 10 days.. bad menstrual pain

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Heavy periods: Your gyn provider can prescribe a low dose estrogen-progesterone analog oral bcp, if there are no contraindications (history of blood clots, etc.) . This type of oral birth control, if taken punctually (within the hour of the previous day's pill) will reduce your bleeding significantly by inhibition of your ovarian function (less estrogen effect on the lining of the uterus).
