Tough question: This question is very difficult to answer as cold sores can be easily spread to genital regions with contact. During sexual encounters the "no kissing" rule often gets ignored in the "heat of the moment." If you are in a committed mutually monogamous relationship and your boyfriend is willing to assume the risk of herpes transmission, then you have a good part of your answer.
