Some thoughts...: In a woman with regular periods, some causes of a late period include: excessive weight loss or weight gain, increased exercising, emotional stress, having an illness, traveling, medicines (like birth control pills), hormonal imbalances, etc… Seeing a doctor is a good idea if symptoms are persistent, recurring, or worrisome. Home pregnancy tests are very accurate 3 weeks after sex.

Worrying does't help: If you have been sexually active, and concerned about being "prematurely" pregnant, then you have to rule out that possibility. You can definitely find out in few days. If you are, then that explains the delay in your period, if you are not pregnant , then see a gyn to understand why your period was late.

If sexually active: Take a home pregnancy test. Reasons for missed / late period include: an anovulatory cycle in which no egg is released, marked v or ^ in weight; eating disorder; over-exercising (endurance athletics), stress, travel, significant illnesses, oral contraceptives ; other meds, illegal drug use, breast feeding, hormone imbalances and medical problems (i.e., pcos).

Period late: If you have had unprotected sexual intercourse then you should worry. If period does not start within a week or so, start doing home pregnancy test with urine kit (buy at drug store)

Take pregnancy test: Home pregnancy tests are very inexpensive & readily available at most grocery & drug stores. So stop fretting & take test. Once your test returns normal/negative, then know that periods are often irregular at your age. You can regulate your menses to some extent by taking birth control pills which then lower risk of pregnancy if taken properly but don't prevent sexually transmitted diseases.

If your pregnancy test returns positive, then obviously you need to go see your family doc or OB for prenatal care. But you'll still need to see one of them (family doc or OB) for birth control in addition to making your partner wear a condom each time to lower risk of STDs.
