2-3 weeks: Without treatment, if the first outbreak is truly a new infection, the outbreak usually is widespread in the genital area or in and around the mouth, and complete healing can take 2-3 weeks. Smaller clusters of sores usually suggest the first noticed outbreak of an infection present for months or years. I hope you're taking valacyclovir or acyclovir, which will speed up healing quite a bit.
