My 8 year old has inconsistent tummy aches every odd week. is this the bodys way of preparing for menstruation?

Not particularly: First menstruation has several consistent preceding signs. They will have had nipple budding for a year or more, some pubic hair growth & they will have straw colored discharge that stains their undies. Tummy aches are not a common feature.
