Can call the doctor: A young person with left chest ache without a good reason or explanation should go to her doctor or the ER to be checked. That means not waiting at home to see if it is a heart attack. Young people usually don't get heart attacks, but life can surprise you. It could turn out to be a lung problem, a bone or muscle problem, or an acid reflux problem. As the saying goes, "better safe than sorry."

Need evaluation: In a 23 year old woman, the likelihood that these symptoms reflect a heart attack are low, but they are concerning and you should go to your family MD and, at a minimum, get an EKG. If you are using estrogen-progestin birth control pills, then the symptoms might reflect a pulmonary embolus, also an issue to raise with your MD.
