Excess estrogen: Prolonged periods of estrogen stimulation from non ovulatory or prolonged menstrual cycles can cause a thickened endometrium. This is called endometrial hyperplasia which can lead to endometrial cancer. The endometrial tissue removed at D & C will be sent to the Pathologist for analysis for any abnormalities.
