Constipated ?: Bright red blood on the outside of a stool is usually from a scratch/fissure in the outlet. Bulky, lumpy or hard stools often will cause this. Darker blood mixed within the poop can indicate blood from further up in the system, a polyp or a bacterial infection. This is the HT general information site.
