A member asked:

I have been on my pill for 6 months and still spotting a week before placebo pills. does this mean ineffective?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Spotting/active pill: Spotting is generally associated with taking the low dose oral BCP at intervals greater than 24 hours. Sometimes estrogen withdrawal can occur when the estrogen is depleted. Take the active pills within the hour of the previous day's active pill to minimize this type of bleeding issue. The effectiveness is not affected, however. Placebos are taken for 7 days, and pregnancy is still avoided.
