OTC and prescription: For acne, if over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide is not helping, a doctor can add an antibiotic gel or cream such as Cleocin (clindamycin) gel. If more help is needed, prescription retinoids such as Retin-A or Differin can be used instead of benzoyl peroxide. Oral antibiotics such as tetracycline may be used also. If severe, a dermatologist may consider Accutane, if no chance of getting pregnant.
