Different Solutions: Tonicity refers to concentrations of molecules that cause water to move from one side of a semipermeable membrane to another. Moving water out of a dialysis patient's blood along with waste products that also need to be removed requires a hypertonic solution. Isotonic means that there is no will be no movement of water, etc. Hypotonic means that water will move back into the patient.

PD concentrations: In peritoneal dialysis, the osmotic force to remove fluid is generated by the concentration of glucose in the bag: 1.25% (hypotonic) gives fluid or is neutral to the patient 2.5% (isotonic) is neutral or may take some fluid from the patient 4.25% (hypertonic) will remove fluid from the patient.
