Yes and no: There are some safeguards in the procedure. A pap smear should never be reported out unless the smear is first an adequate specimen ( has the right kind of cervical cells on the slide) as judged by the person reviewing the slide.If adequate, and no abnormal cells are seen, it would be reported as negative.Can errors be made ?, yes.
