Why is the survival for pancreatic cancer so poor? even at stage one i think 5 year specific survival is only 14% or so. rather dismal.

Multiple reasons: Pancreatic cancer symptoms show up late due to the organ being deep in the abdomen and the tumor is highly aggressive and responds poorly to all forms of therapy.
