See Your Doctor: Fifth disease is uncommon in 1 yr olds however this same virus causes 6th disease aka Roseola which is seen in infants. Symptoms include high fever, rash, and complications such as febrile seizures, low platelets, and more. It is never safe to assume diagnoses in young children. Rashes can signal serious disorders as well. See your doctor now for proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Full history/exam: A full history and exam is indicated. Studies show that several conditions can cause these symptoms. Knowing your son's medical history, immunization status, whether he was full term or premature/ICU stay, a set of vital signs, and physical examination to rule out strep throat and scarlet fever/rheumatic fever, erysipelas, slapped cheek/parvovirus B19, other Ddx relies on full physical exam.
