Herpes testing: Herpes testing is more challenging than other STDs. A swab can be done if lesions are present to directly look for the virus. Otherwise blood antibody testing can be done to evaluate for past exposure. It takes about 6 weeks after exposure for antibodies to show up in blood. Swab testing can only be done when lesions are present
