A member asked:

My friend is experiencing fever (severity: moderate) , sore throat, cough (quality: with phelgm or mucus) and chills. the following also describe him: aching muscles, generalized weakness, and body aches. what should he do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can evaluate: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants (but they wouldn't cause chills). A person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). Hopefully, the patient had his flu vaccine.
