I have been having heartburn for several years now. i have tried many things, but i want to ask particularly why it happens long after eating(6 hours) ? and also i am having it after every bigger( junkier) meal.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Delayed gerd: Heartburn occurs when the valve between the lower esophagus and stomach opens inappropriately allowing acidic gastric juices to enter the esophagus. Spices, alcohol, caffeine, nicotine and greasy foods can cause this reaction. Also obesity, bending or straining the abdominal area can cause reflux. Taking medication like carafate, prilosec or zantac prevents reflux. In delayed reflux?caffeine, nicotin
