Dehydration: Can be difficult to assess in a child. The most reliable way is to do serial weights but if none recently can be hard to know how dehydrated. If any concern as a GP I would never begrudge a parent seeking urgent review at either GP or afterhours or if these not available the emergency department. Other option is healthline or via virtual consult on smarthealth (Waikato patients)

Doctor or pharmacist: Please see a doctor. Oral rehydration therapy is a type of fluid replacement containing sodium and potassium which helps to treat dehydration. You can buy oral rehydration solution from a pharmacy, or make it by combining water, salts and sugar. Diluted juice or lemonade (mixed as one part juice or lemonade with four parts water) can also be used, as can sports drinks, but not in young children.
