A member asked:

I have been taking progesterone for 1 month and feeling much better than on any pill. my obgyn wants to put me on mirena, why not stay on progesterone?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mirena vs. progestin: Not sure of what form of progesterone therapy you are on, but a shot of Depo-Provera is birth control using just long acting progesterone. "Depo" should not be used for more than 2 years b/c of potential bone loss. Mirena has a progesterone component imbedded, and can be used for many years w/o problems in most women. Progesterone birth control is not as reliable as the IUD.
