A member asked:

Are there test that can be done to tell if the foetus contain de novo single gene disorder?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fetal genetics: The term "de novo" implies that the disorder is "new", and therefore the genetics lab would be able to search for the specific genetic disorder. These tests are precise for most known disorders. Common gross genetic disorders can be tested for by either a placental sample or an amniocentesis. Both should be done only if there is a family history of a specific disorder.
