Sounds like a bite: Bug bites are mostly a nuisance, but can cause skin sloughing, local or systemic infection at times. Watch for a bullseye shape around the bite, darkening skin, heat and continued redness or streaking from the site. Any of those would be a reason to seek professional help.

You "think"?: Unless you saw and felt an attack, assume it was not a spider. Spider bites are actually quite uncommon. Also your description is not consistent with a venomous spider sting. You do not know what it is. Perhaps a Dr can help.
