Gallbladder function: The gallbladder is responsible for ejecting bile to dissolve fatty food intake into the small intestine. If gallstones occur, obstruction of the gallbladder can be impaired resulting in the symptoms you have noted. Additionally, progesterone increases in pregnancy act on the smooth muscle of the gallbladder and ducts to slow egress of the bile. Add in pregnancy compression and Voila! misery.
