A member asked:

How do a zit and a cold sore differ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cold sore/Zit: A cold sore is caused by the herpes simplex virus while a "zit" is a clogged sweat gland that may become inflamed. Both can cause uncomfortable sores on the face. However, cold sores are typically on the lips or inside the mouth while a "zit" is located anywhere where a sweat gland can get blocked. The other difference is a cold sore is contagious while a "zit" is not.
