Depoprogestins: Depoorogestins should not be taken for more than 2-3 years in a row. When discontinued, your regular menses will again start, with higher levels of estrogen as one gets into 30's/40's causing the symptoms you describe. Ask your gyn provider to discuss low dose birth control pills, which stop ovarian production of estrogen, consequently the "pre-menstrual syndrome" is much reduced.
