A member asked:

I experienced a 7mm kidney stone 3 years ago and i feel it's coming on again. i'm curious if there is medication to help dissolve this? i'm trying to avoid the er.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on stone: If a stone is confirmed by X-ray or scan, only kind dissolvable is uric acid, but these are only 5-10% of stones. Other stones have to pass on their own, or be removed by a urologist. ER only necessary for severe pain. Otherwise can be seen in office or clinic by urologist or primary care doc.
