Hmmm...: For most women, ovulation (a mature, ready-to-be-fertilized egg comes out from one of the ovaries) happens 2 weeks BEFORE the start of her next period. That means she is fertile at 2 weeks before her next period. Having sex closer than 11-12 days before her next period is not likely to fertilize the egg, because the egg is already too old by then (assuming she has very regular menstrual cycles).
