A member asked:

My ast is 43 hi and alt is 51hi and glucose 61 lo. does this mean i'm generally a sick person? could this be serious? thanks

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, the ALT and AST are mildly elevated. If you drink alcohol, stop entirely. If you are overweight, lose weight (easier said than done). The glucose value depends on how it was tested and may wish to redo it after an overnight fast. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex.
