Phlebitis: The vain gets irritated. Try NSAID, push fluids and local warm compress. If the problem persists or if you feel know is developing or arm swelling you should be seen.

Vein Pain: Following an IV insertion and/or solutions that are placed through the IV, the vein can become irritated and inflamed and this can lead to phlebitis of the vein. Moist heat to the area and motrin should help but you should follow up with you primary physician.
