Dermatitis: Sometimes a dermatologist can look at the rash's characteristics and determine if it is the mite that causes scabies. Other times a skin scrapping is needed. If you were tx appropriately for scabies, you may have been reinfected or you have a rash from the treatment. Go back to the dermatologist and have them look closer.

Mimic scabies: At times, post scabies syndrome can mimic scabies with intense itching, making it difficult to tell if the mites are really gone. Your physician will be able to take another scraping and see if there has been a re-infestation. Scabies treatments could also lead to irritation or dermatitis where a steroid cream would be helpful.
