Only if needed: If the average dose of mefenamic failed to control your symptoms. you can try to increase the dose by 50% but note that it may increase the chance for GI upset. If mefenamic acid did nothing at all, you can try ibuprofen after 3 hours again ( but not repeatedly )with the understanding that dose-related side effects may occur. Be sure to take them with food.
