Appropriate: In most cases, it is appropriate to get a plain film (regular X-ray) before CT scan due to cost, necessity, and that it is more complicated.

Why do you need CT?: Often a plain x-ray is all that you need to exclude a diagnosis such as pneumonia. What is the reason for your requesting a CT?
