A member asked:

I've had a very chapped upper lip for about 8 wks. i'm not licking, it's a reaction to something - not using products. can allergies present this way?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Allergy or irritants: Persistent dry lips may be lip eczema, which can be treated like skin eczema, using hydrocortisone cream plus Vaseline or Aquaphor to retain moisture. Sometimes, lipsticks or lip sunscreen chemicals are causing an allergic reaction on the lips. Other times, a person is a primary lip-licker (it's a habit). If dry lips crack, they can get irritated by foods or juices. A doctor can sort things out.
