Usually just bitten: A person can notice a mosquito bite right away, or within a few minutes. If she is asleep, it may take longer to notice. If bitten while sleeping, she should notice the bite upon waking up. A new mosquito bite should be visibly growing in size on the skin surface during the first couple of hours.
