A member asked:

My daughter twisted her ankle about 5 month ago. we've just noticed that it's a bit swollen and she has mild discomfort/pain when she turns her foot. do i need to take her for x-ray?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Exam yes: The need for an x-ray would be guided by findings on a physical exam. If her joint is stable and there is just evidence of ligamentous injury, x-rays do not add anything to the assessment. It is likely there is a tear in one of the supportive ligaments that has not healed correctly & needs work.
